The 100 Day Project is a creative challenge held every year on Instagram. You pick a project and work on it for 100 days in a row. It can be drawing, painting, writing–whatever you want!
I’ll be honest: 2020 was a tough year. It was a challenge to finish all 100 pieces this time around, because of everything going on and not knowing what the future would hold for my art business. But, like someone with a stack of quarters at a Galaga arcade machine, I just kept going.
Like the previous two years, each piece of original art started as a random watercolor shape, and I used ink to make it into a cartoon. Unlike previous years, this time around I made cartoons in three different sizes: 3.5″ x 5, 4″ x 6″, and 5″ x 7″.
The 100 Day Project for 2020 was also the first time I used the new shop on my website, because I didn’t have any events to sell them in person. It wasn’t until June 2021 I was able to sell this batch of 100 Day Project cartoons in person, at the Lansing Eclectic Artisan Market.
Here is a sample of some of my cartoons for 2020 (check my shop too!). Remember: they all started as a random watercolor shape, then I turned them into a cartoon. I don’t plan ahead what the cartoon will be and don’t overthink it. I just got with my first instinct.
