Downtown Lansing Traffic Light Box Art

In the late summer of 2022, Downtown Lansing Inc. approached local artists for a unique opportunity. These artists, myself included, had the opportunity to paint and draw on traffic light control boxes downtown. This was a way to add more public art to the downtown area. Each artist took a different approach and pretty much had free reign to do what they wanted.

My artist buddy Corey Marie of Papercuts Handmade asked me to team-up with her for this project. Corey’s idea: make the box look like a claw machine game, and draw local references as the “prizes.” Corey handled the “outside” of the claw machine, and I drew the cartoony “prizes” inside.

Talk about a fun challenge! I used Posca paint markers for this and tried to fit in as many local references as I could.
