Have you ever wanted a peek into a working art studio? Well this is your chance! Steph and I are hosting an “open studio” day this Sunday, July 25th.

See Inside a Working Artist Studio

We’ll be at our space inside the Cedar Street Art Collective, 10 AM – 4 PM (1701 S Cedar St, Lansing, MI 48910, the old Dicker and Deal building). Just use the front door on Cedar, we’ll have a sign out and the door should be open.

Not only can you get a tour, our see works in progress, but you can use this opportunity to pick up some new art! That’s right, we’ll have original art, prints, and more for sale.

(Or, you can buy something from my shop right now and pick it up on Sunday)

That’s not all: there is an artist pop-up happening in the CSAC parking lot at the same time, so please go and check that out as well. So much art!

NOTE: This is a casual, low-key event. Meaning, we don’t have any special talks/snacks/drinks/music planned.

A Work in Progress

The East Lansing Art Festival is on the horizon, and I’m hard at work making new art for the big weekend. Here’s a look at a piece that’s currently on my drawing table.

The idea here is another “three panel” piece. Each of the panels is 4″ x 6″ and will go in a three window frame. I’m using my Litup A3 Light Box in the above photo. This lets me get fast and loose with the sketch, and makes inking WAY easier (the original sketch is under the watercolor paper I’m inking on).

The concept, like my other Three Panel pieces, is the look of a comic strip. It’s a piece that tells a story (and it’s the second underwater travel themed piece in this series).

My plan is to paint the submarine with Acryla Gouache, and everything else will be watercolor. That idea came to me while inking. I felt it would make for a good contrast.
