Being on the art festival circuit means I have to try *new* festivals when I can. Case in point, you can find me this Saturday and Sunday at Common Ground’s Birmingham Street Art Fair in downtown Birmingham, Michigan.
(Also, I’ll be at Funky Ferndale Art Fair the following weekend, 9/24-26)
I’m excited to try a new art festival in a new city. Nothing against my usual haunts, like the East Lansing Art Festival, but trying new shows is A Must.
Sure, new cities and new art festivals aren’t without their stress and anxieties. I’m excited though, which helps balance things out. Plus: I have new art to share this weekend!
New Art: They Grow Up So Fast
Below is a photo of a new piece, They Grow Up So Fast. It is part of my Three Panels series, which resembles a comic strip.
New Ways
I tried a few new style things with this piece. Mainly, I limited what I inked with black ink. I felt this helped make the main characters stand out better. It is the same reason I left the child’s skin the color of the paper: they stand out better.
Test Run
Here’s another photo, an ink and watercolor sketch/study I did before I started work on the real piece.
Come see this piece, and the rest of my new art, at the Common Ground’s Birmingham Street Art Fair, Sept. 18-19. I’m in booth 017! Steph will be there too, she is sharing my tent with me (hooray for only setting up one tent).
I suggest getting there early on Saturday if you can. All of my Three Panels pieces sold out at East Lansing Art Festival last month, so grab one while you can! I’ll have at least three new pieces in this series, and a few other new Found Cartoons.
Bonus Fries!
Here are the other two new pieces in my Three Panels series. Like with the piece above, each panel is 5″ x 7″. First up is Faster Than Light.
Next is Deep Storage.
