After taking a break from making comics, I decided to start up again. This time, I’m posting my comics to Patreon first, and then to social media. Patreon makes it easy for fans to support me with a monthly payments. Think of it like donating to a public radio or TV station. I also give out awards each month based on how much someone pledges. This ranges from early access new comics at the lowest level, to a new piece of original art in the mail at the highest level.
Unlike my previous comic, Foxes & Boxes, my comics on Patreon are getting me back to my “gag comic” roots. When I first started making comics around ten years ago, they wasn’t an ongoing story, just random jokes. I missed making these kinds of comics, so that is my focus now.
These comics tend to be more autobiographical too, and in some cases will be serious, like this example. I’m also using Patreon as a space to play and experiment, be it sharpening my skills in Procreate on my iPad, or trying a creative challenge.
Patrons get first access to new comics, but I share them later (usually the next day) for “free” as public posts on Patreon and on my social media channels.
