Lansing is home to a hyper-local-humor social media account, Lansing Facts. I have had the honor of designing stickers for them. As of Spring 2023, I designed two different cartoon stickers. Each of these appeared in shops around Lansing, and referenced Lansing places or things.
The first sticker I designed features Lansing’s (in)famous “holiday balls.” These giant ornaments appear in downtown Lansing every holiday season. Lansing Facts contacted me, asking for a sticker showcasing these balls with the phrase “giant balls are infrastructure.” They also requested I work in a reference to a house with a giant decorative Halloween skeleton kept up year round.
For the second sticker, Lansing Facts wanted a bit of a mash up. They wanted me to combine the French Onion Chip Dip from Quality Diary ( a local convenience store chain) with a monster. The specific monster was a Mimic from the game Dungeons & Dragons. In the game, a Mimic is a grotesque monster that takes on the shape of an everyday object.
