Inktober is a month long drawing challenge where you create an ink drawing for each day in October. That’s really the only rule, and there are plenty of styles and interpretations. Each year, there’s an official prompt list with a word for each day, which is found at the Inktober website.
Like last year, I used the official Inktober prompt list, but each watercolor cartoon involved a cat in someway. I called this series “31 Cats – 2019.”
This time around, I shook things up a bit. I planned to make the first ten cartoons were 3.5″ x 5″, the next ten were 4″ x 6″, and the remaining eleven 5″ x 7″. I had to resize a few here and there, but I pretty much hit that goal. I matted each cartoon in an 8″ x 10″ mat, regardless of the opening size.
Additionally, this year I used a nib and dip pen to ink the drawings. I never used these tools before, so it was fun learning experience. I wasn’t able to use a nib and dip pen for every drawing, but I ended up using them for the majority.
Some of this year’s cartoons may still be available in my Etsy shop. Below are a few samples of this year’s watercolor and ink cartoons.
