After a whirlwind few weeks, my first ever outdoor art installation, Path Pals, is all set up! This piece is part of the 2021 Lansing ArtPath here in Lansing, which places art installations along the River Trail. Today, June 1st is the official opening of ArtPath. I installed Path Pals on May 23rd, but today is when the summer long event officially kicks off.
My concept for Path Pals is the piece acts as a photo frame for visitors. They stand in the mouth of the “monster” on either side and get their picture taken. Visitors can then share the picture on social media using the tag #ArtPathPals.
I wrote about my being selected as an artist a few weeks ago, even though that feels like 100 years ago at this point. Did I mention it was a whirlwind few weeks? I was at the studio mostly every day, even if it was just an hour or two to slap on another layer of paint.
Find Path Pals at Site 18
Thankfully, my site, site 18, is pretty easy to find–and there is nearby parking. Head over to the Elm Park baseball diamond on the River Trail. There’s a dirt parking lot nearby, so site 18 makes a great starting point to check out the rest of ArtPath. Just park and start walking, or biking!
Extra Special Thanks
I once again want to thank Luke from Pline Craftsman Co. for all his help with this project. He took my concept scribbles and made them into something I could actually paint. He also helped install the finished piece on the River Trail. A big thank you to the Lansing Art Galley too, because of the stipend I got as part of being selected I was able to hire Luke in the first place.
ArtPath: June 1 – August 31
You can visit all of ArtPath starting today, June 1st, until August 31st. I did tell the Lansing Art Gallery that Path Pals is for available for sale, so if you are interested, contact them.
