I spent Saturday morning and afternoon moving. No, not to a new house, but to a new studio I share with my wife, artist Steph Joy Hogan. We’re sharing a space at the Cedar Street Art Collective in Lansing. At the moment, my “space” is in a sort of backroom area. Which is fine. I like having a space to myself. This could change in the future though.
But for now: photos!
It may look like a cramped spot, but I don’t mind. I like being able to switch between tables easily, and have everything I need within reach.
I have three tables at the moment:
- A main “work” table with my brushes, pens, etc. (see top photo)
- My angled drawing table
- A second six foot long table as a “drying area” or for in progress stuff. And in this case, a spot for books at the moment.
So far, I spent most of my time at the new studio setting stuff up. Going forward, I can now get back to making art.
I’m not really used to working around someone else, which is the case when Steph is there with me. We each have our own “space,” which helps. More importantly, we found out Sunday night we can both listen to music in our spaces and not bother each other.
We started out Sunday evening by grabbing a pizza from Corey’s Lounge down the street. This is the second time we’ve grabbed take out from there on our way to the studio. Yummy.
The upside to both of us sharing a studio space is we can encourage each other to go. This has already proven true several times in the last few weeks. Steph will want to go, so I’ll go. Or I’ll need to go, and Steph will come. Or we’ll meet there.
This is a big step for both of us, and we’re hoping me can make it last a long time. As always, thanks for your support! A special thanks to those who bought something in my archive sale. If you missed it, well my shop still has plenty of stuff!
