I took a few big steps this past week. First, I set up a Society6 store to sell Clattertron prints and merchandise. For example, this darling coffee mug, featuring my Coffee comic.
I decided not to go with Zenfolio, mainly due to the monthly cost. I don’t yet know if there is even a market for what I want to sell, so it made more sense to go the free route for the time being. I can always set up a Zenfolio site, or a shop of my own, later if there is a good reason to do so. I also like how Society6 has its own community on the site, so my art is at least part of a bigger pool, instead of by itself on my site.
There are only a few items in my Society6 store at the moment, but I plan on getting more up soon. I might focus more on merch versus prints, at least for now. Although, the thing with Society6 is, if you upload an image you can make it both. I would like to try to create a few things specifically for Society6 as well.
Coming to Your Town
My other big step this past week was applying to be an exhibitor at SPACE in April–the Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo. The show takes place in Columbus, Ohio, and I always hear from comic-pals Ryan Claytor and Jay Jacot how much fun they have. So, yes: once I’m approved (or whatever), I’ll have a table at SPACE where I will sell Clattertron mini-comics and sketches.
A year ago I decided 2014 would be the year I actively try to appear at comic shows and conventions. I’ll be at the MSU Comics Forum Artist Alley next month, hopefully SPACE in April, and I’m toying with trying out the Cherry Capital Comic Con in May (again, I hear from comic-pals it is a fun time). My goal at the shows isn’t to make mad bank. I have done enough other shows while plugging The Magic of Eyri to know such a thing doesn’t really happen, unless you sell a bunch of merch. No, my goal at the shows is to get my comics in as many hands as possible, finding new fans, and meeting new comic pals.
