This week brings my final (I probably mean it this time) multiple day art show of 2019. I’m appearing at the Royal Oak Market: Art Fair Edition this Thursday and Friday (November 21-22).
What is the Royal Oak Market: Art Fair Edition?
Located inside the Royal Oak Farmers Market, this event features 60 jury selected artists along with food trucks, craft beer, and more. Better still: free admission!
Attendees can shop for fun and unique gifts this holiday season in downtown Royal Oak, inside the comfort of the Royal Oak Farmers Market. There is also a special whiskey tasting event, which does have an admission fee.
I’m looking forward to appearing in a new venue and a new city.
When and Where is the Royal Oak Market?
This show is two days, this Thursday November 21 and Friday November 22. Hours for both days are noon to 10PM. Yes, noon to 10PM. Those are long days, but the idea is to take advantage of Royal Oak’s nightlife crowd.
Attendees can find the Royal Oak Farmers Market at 316 E. 11 Mile Road, Royal Oak MI.
What Am I Selling?
As this is a fine art show, I’m only selling original art–with one exception. I will have copies of the Foxes & Boxes book for sale. But, no prints. Everything besides the book is a watercolor original.
I will have matted and framed watercolor originals, including pieces from:
- Inktober 2019
- The 100 Day Project 2018 and 2019
- Found Cartoons
- Monster Portraits
- Sassy Food
- Holiday themed cartoons
For the first time at an event, I’m also selling framed watercolor ornaments. These are new items, and feature original cartoons 2 inches by 3 inches in size. I actually had a lot more last week, but after posting photos to Instagram and Facebook, I ended up selling most of them.
Something Borrowed, Something New
At the Royal Oak Market: Art Fair Edition, I’m trying something totally new. I’ll have a completely different layout and display set-up. The perk of being inside is I don’t need a tent, but I still have the usual 10 feet by 10 feet space.
Steph let me use her grid wall displays for the show, and helped me come up with a new layout. I’m always trying to improve my booth set-up, and this could be the next step. It means hauling some bulky things (the walls are 6 feet tall and 2 feet wide, and I’m bringing 9), but it will really make a difference.
I’ll miss my trusty grid cubes, but I’m getting to the point where I have to level-up my presentation. This will also mean I will have to get a bigger vehicle too.
What’s Next?
I have two more events coming up, both are in early December.
- December 6: opening reception for the Sunrises & Smokestacks exhibition at Fenner Nature Center
- December 7: REO Town Annual Holiday Pop-Up (REO Town Marketplace)
And guess what? I’m already starting to plan events for 2020! I applied for two festivals last week, and I’m planning on applying to a few more. You can for sure see me at the Michigan State University Comics Forum in February (and it is possible this could be my only “comic” show of 2020).
