Photos – Inside Alcatraz

by Daniel J. Hogan
The view may suck, but there's free Wi-Fi.

That's the room where the Colonel keeps his secret recipe.

Photos from my Escape to Alcatraz series.  I don’t remember exactly what this door led to, but I don’t think it was “the hole.” It may have been another solitary cell.

More photos after the break.

I had the crank the heck out of my ISO to get the shot above. This was my first day really using my new Canon T2i, so a lot of these Alcatraz photos were taking with the Auto settings. Oh well, have to start somewhere.

room inside alcatraz. loved how the light poured in these windows.

These windows are for lookin', not for climbin'.

I had to tweak this shot a bit in Photoshop, as it was kind of soft (ah, the joys of shooting inside). I converted it to the blue color channel and used the Curves tool. I switched the blend mode to Color Burn and dropped the Fill to about 45%–it really helped darken the image and make it more shadowy and spooky, while boosting the light from the windows.

Another re-post, but a bit larger this time around. Love the light coming in through the window and the “Library” sign above the door.

That’s it for this week! See ya Monday.
