Home Old Stuff Photo: Run Away!

Photo: Run Away!

by Daniel J. Hogan

Here’s a picture I snapped last week in downtown Lansing.

Run away! 180/365

This was outside of the Capitol downtown, in one of the many lovely flowerbeds. I saw these two insects sharing this flower and knew I had to get photo.

From what I could tell, they were leaving each other alone, but I like to think the bee was freaking the beetle (?) out. Shots like this make me wish I had a macro lens.

I’m really happy with the detail I got on the beetle (I keep typing beatle, gah, stop it).

Interesting. It appears you’ve caught a honeybee, a native species that is quickly disappearing, and a Japanese beetle, an invasive species that is very destructive.

@ Melissa – hey, thanks! I didn’t even know what was a Japanese beetle 🙂

I should describe this as “the out of focus honey bee in the background represents its disappearing and the Japanese beetle in focus in the foreground represents its being an invasive species.”

Now, if I can only make it sound like I did that on purpose.
