I get about one cold a year, and this was the week. Feeling better-ish now, but the week was rough. The upside was, I got plenty of sleep and I finally watched the film Argo. I enjoyed the film, although I know there are plenty of complaints about the actual ‘true’ level of the film–which is something I could care less about. There aren’t any specific requirements for a film to proclaim ‘based on true events.’ Films are entertainment, and entertainment usually means the story, true or not, needs to be entertaining–which means parts of the story need to be ‘punched up’ or altered. Like I said, when I see ‘based on a true story’ at the start of a (non-documentary) film, I disregard the statement. Argo, punched up or not, was a well-made thriller.
Now, if Argo deserved the Oscar for Best Picture, is another story (I didn’t see all of the other nominees).
Speaking of movies, I wrote a new review for Lost Highway (Judge Dredd) and a post about checking out Blu-Ray discs from the library for the Capital Area District Libraries blog (I picked up Argo at the library).
