Last month, Sara an editor at Exploits, a sibling magazine of Unwinnable, asked me if I wanted to write an article about the cartoon show, Freakazoid!
To quote the titular character himself, “Do I!”
Three-hundred plus words later, I have an article about the zany 1990s cartoon in the newest issue of Exploits. This was a fun assignment, as I’m always happy to write about my favorite cartoons any time at all.
Exploits, like Unwinnable, is a pay-to-read magazine, so I can’t directly link to the article here. However! You can read my article, and the rest of the issue, for only $2. Better still, if you subscribe to Unwinnable, you get Exploits for free.
Unwinnable is an online magazine which features a lot of great writing, including some from my old blogging pals from yesteryear.
(Speaking of, Sara also runs the video game blog, Videodame. Check it out).
Being a paywall site means Unwinnable doesn’t have to rely on click-bait junk to get money from ads (or worse, regurgitate content from another site without permission). Most importantly, it also means the writers get paid. Yes, I got paid to write about Freakazoid!
Livin’ the dream, kids. Livin’ the dream.
Freakazoid! was another example of a great, weird, 1990s cartoon. Hilarious and bizarre, it was the result of Animaniacs veterans taking a stab at a superhero show.
Both seasons of Freakazoid! are for sale on Amazon Video. Buy them. Watch them. Love them. Share them. You will either love the absurd insanity, or not. Freakazoid! is a love it or hate it show, because it is so scattershot.
I, of course, loved every second.
I definitely have other cartoons I could write about. Perhaps I will send a pitch or two Sara’s way. I miss freelance writing, which has taken a bit of a backseat while I focused on comics and cartooning these last few years.
