Tis the season! The season for giving gifts to all of the goofy artists in your life (and if you are extra generous, here’s my Wish List). I whipped up a cartooning and art supply gift guide (see last year’s) to make things a bit easier for those on the quest for The Perfect Gift.
Firstly, items are in no particular order, but I’ll note where I actually own/used said item. Additionally, a few items are on my own wish list, or I know would make a good gift based on what I’ve heard or read. Finally, enjoy this handy gift guide for the artist on your holiday shopping list.
Books
- Drawing Cute with Katie Cook – As the title says, you learn how to draw cute, from the master of cute, Michigan artist Katie Cook. A fun book, and it is HILARIOUS. Buy on Amazon
- The Bullet Journal Method – I started a Bullet Journal back in October, and it has helped me a lot. I’m much more organized, and I’ve made more time for art and comics. Buy on Amazon
- Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World – An excellent graphic novel biography. Highly recommended. I loved it. Buy on Amazon
- Adventures in Drawing – I haven’t picked this one up yet, but it is on my wish list. I’m a big fan of the artist/author, so I’m sure it will be a good time. Buy on Amazon
Markers, Paint, Pens
- Pilot Kakuno Fine-Nib Fountain Pen – My first ever fountain pen! I love this pen. Designed for beginners. Buy on Amazon
- Tombo Dual Brush Pen 10 pack (Grayscale) – These are fun markers for shading and go well with watercolor. Buy on Amazon
- Sakura Koi Creative Art Colors Watercolors (24 set) – If you are looking to spice up your watercolors, try this set. Includes metallic, pearlescent, and fluorescent watercolor paints. I really enjoy these. Buy on Amazon
- Sakura Koi 12 Watercolor Field Sketch Set – This is my “everyday carry” watercolor set (read my review). It’s super compact and easy to use. Great for beginners and pros alike. Buy on Amazon
- Pentel Aquash Waterbrushes (3 pack) – I love these waterbrushes, and they are another part of my “everyday carry” gear. Buy on Amazon
Paper & More
- Bee Paper Super Deluxe Sketch Pad (6×9) – Available in a variety of sizes, the Bee Paper Super Deluxe has been my go-to sketchbook for a few years now (read my review). It is a mixed-media paper, so it’s great for pencil, ink, and paint. Buy on Amazon
- LEUCHTTURM1917 Bullet Journal Notebook – While you don’t need the “official” Bullet Journal notebook, however I do enjoy mine. The pages are already numbered, and there’s sections for the different parts of a Bullet Journal. When starting my first one in October, this was very handy. Buy on Amazon
- The Masters Brush Cleaner – This stuff works very well and I highly recommend it (I use it on my watercolor brushes, even my Pentel Aquashes). Buy on Amazon
