Hi, I’m a cartoonist!
That means I draw whimsical, quirky pictures and comics. I live in Lansing, Michigan (I grew up in Harper Woods, a suburb of Detroit). I live in Lansing with my wife, artist Steph Joy Hogan, and five cats (Nigel, Rags, Jasper, Jonesy and Goose). I moved to Lansing in 2005 after graduating from Grand Valley State University (where I studied Film/Video Production and Animation) and have been here ever since. They can’t get rid of me!
And they try. Oh, how they try.
(OK, not really)
I enjoy making whimsical, quirky, colorful art. You can buy my art in my shop, or in person at art festivals and events. Want a heads up about where I’ll be next? Sign-up for my newsletter.
Watercolor makes up the majority of my original art, but these days I’m branching out a bit. Lately I’m painting mixed media pieces with gouache and other fun stuff.
Digital art is part of my skill set too. I currently draw digitally on an iPad Pro using either Clip Studio Paint or Procreate. Most of my prints and t-shirts were drawn digitally.
My path as an artist took big turn for the better when the 2018 East Lansing Art Festival awarded me a spot in the Emerging Artist tent. After realizing I did have an audience for my original art, I’ve been attending more and more art festivals.

Read My Comics
When I’m not snapping photos of my cats, I write and draw the all-ages fantasy comic Foxes & Boxes for my website clattertron.com. I started cartooning and making comics regularly in 2012, at age 30. I toyed with comics here in there in the past, but never stuck with it long.
Foxes & Boxes is an on-going long-form comic. It’s serial in nature, and more character focused. I recommend reading from the start. Foxes & Boxes tells the story of two adventures for hire: Fox, the not very skilled but well-meaning son of famous adventurers, and Boxes, a mage and she’s not afraid to cast fireball at the drop of a pointy hat.
You can now buy the first collection of Foxes & Boxes! It is available in my shop (signed) or via Amazon (not signed).
My previous comics on clattertron.com won a 2015 SPACE Prize in the Webcomic Category, which means Steph must confess she is married to an award-winning cartoonist.
Read My Novel: The Magic of Eyri
In 2007, I stopped playing video games long enough to write and self-publish my first novel, The Magic of Eyri (Amazon, Lulu), which my mother really enjoyed. I then used all the skills I learned as a college radio DJ to adapt The Magic of Eyri into an audio book podcast, made up of 53 free episodes.
