Magic of Eyri Podcast: big in China?

Like any good webmaster, I check my visitor data pretty regularly. Over the past few months I’ve noticed some thing interesting–I get way more downloads of the Magic of Eyri Podcast in China than in the United States.

My stats, let me show you them:

Numbers don't lie--China uses more of my bandwidth.

Yes, I have more page views and hits in the U.S. of A than anywhere else, but the bandwidth usage in China is nearly twice the amount of the USA. I brought this up with some writer pals at ConClave back in October, and one mentioned that fantasy stuff is really popular in China right now. I mentioned this to a friend, and she asked a Chinese student she tutors and the student told her that podcasts are a popular method for learning English.

Oh boy.

I am equally amused and concerned that there might be scores of folks in China (or other places) learning English via my horrible Michigan accent, silly voices, made up words, and amateur voice acting. If you’re ever toolin’ round Shanghai and hear someone talking like this, then I’m probably to blame.

danieljhogan.com and magicofeyri.com are now both done with the webhost switch. Huzzah. Things got a big scary for this site, but after I realized it was a matter of which folder went where, it all worked out.

Feed Problems Fixed

It was brought to my attention today that the RSS feed for the podcast was only showing the last five posts, and not the entire run and in the case of the iTunes Store, only the last three episodes.

Well, after some trouble shooting and hair pulling, I solved the problem (and was glad I did before deleting my FeedBurner feed). I had the settings set to only include the last 5 posts in the syndication feed.

Yeah. I’m a moron.

Anyway, it is set to a much higher number now, so that should not be a problem. My apologies to those that this snafu caused any problems for.

I did the same thing to the feed for my blog. Sadly, I deleted the FeedBurner feed for my blog first, as a sort of test…and only realized afterwards that this wasn’t the problem. Well, I have the FeedBurner feed up again and everything will be fine…I just might have to go back and recode some of the FeedBurner buttons that show my blog subscriber stats.

I’m still very upset with myself for making such a dumb mistake in the first place. Live and learn I guess. And it could have been WAY worse.

I’m trying out my new blog settings–this should get mirrrored over to the ol’ livejournal account. The LJ account gets my daily Twitter dumps though, so if you like reading that stuff, make sure to bookmark the ol’ LJ. I’ll still respond to comments on LJ though, so don’t worry–I’m not giving up on it.
