This Saturday, May 5 2018 is Free Comic Book Day. It’s pretty much my Black Friday (…Saturday?) in that it’s a big day for me. It also kicks off my Month of Crazy (aka “May“), where I’m appearing somewhere three out of four weekends (and it’s my third weekend appearance in a row).
For this year’s Free Comic Book Day, I’m appearing at The Comic Signal in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
What is Free Comic Book Day?
It’s a day with free comics! However, this doesn’t mean you can walk out of the store with anything for free. Nah. Publishers make special Free Comic Book Day comics you can take home. The idea is to get old and new (especially new) comic book fans down to their local comic shop. The free comics are (usually) one-shot books, and there’s always a great selection for readers of all ages.
I suggest you get to your local comic shop as soon as possible. There’s a good chance a book you want could be gone if you don’t show up right away.
Keep in mind, some stores have certain rules about how many books you can take (especially if you are one of the first in the door). Be nice!
Where Will I Be on Free Comic Book Day?
Come find me at The Comic Signal, located at 4318 Plainfield Ave NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49525.
What Am I Selling on Free Comic Book Day?
As always, I’ll have my usual assortment of prints, buttons, stickers, Foxes & Boxes mini-comics, and original art. I do have some new cartoon prints, along with the new(ish) buttons I got a few weeks ago (buttons have a hot seller this year! Thanks Pinback Buttons!). I will have my #the100DayProject cartoons, and some other larger original art too.
Big News: I’m doing free sketches for kids (12 and under)! I’ve done this on every Free Comic Book Day, and while it’s a lot of work, it is a lot of fun. I better load up on ink and paper. And do a bunch of hand stretches.
I will also bring my Mashup Cartoon stuff, but I will wait and see how busy it is before offering them.
Come on out to Free Comic Book Day this Saturday! I hope to see you.
